Press Release: Anna McMorrin MP Brings Free Fitness Classes for Nearly 200 Children to Cardiff North

August 28, 2019

Anna McMorrin MP is helping Cardiff North Gymnastics, a small start-up business, to give children free access to fitness and gymnastics sessions across a variety of ages.

26.5% of children in Wales are classed as overweight or obese and 40% of 3-7 year olds in the Cardiff area are not meeting the NHS recommended 60 minutes physical exercise per day, 7 days a week.

McMorrin said: “I am really pleased to be helping support a local business and provide families with access to free gymnastics classes for their children. Physical activity plays a key role in building and maintaining better mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Healthier and happier children make for happier communities”.

“Often financial constraints placed in the way of access to summer and holiday fitness and sports camps can be a barrier to children accessing sports and fitness activities with a trained professional. That’s why, with the generous help of Cardiff North Gymnastics Class, I put on a free three-day summer gymnastics club, aimed at highlighting the issues many families face during the summer holidays and beyond”.

Cameron Davis, a coach for Cardiff North Gymnastics Club said “We’re thrilled to be working with Anna on this and we are excited to be building our business in Cardiff North. We’ve had a positive response to our sessions with Anna as well as other classes we have been running in local schools. We are looking forward to finding a permanent home in Cardiff North”.
