Cardiff Bus removing Capital Links

January 28, 2019

I am deeply concerned by the decision to cut further Cardiff Bus services and to withdraw all Capital Links services across Cardiff. This will have a devastating impact on my constituents in Cardiff North and I have sought an urgent meeting with Cardiff Bus to discuss further.

Here is my letter to Cardiff Bus.

Re: Changes to Cardiff Bus and Capital Links Services

I write as the Member of Parliament for Cardiff North regarding the very worrying news of the changes to Cardiff Bus services and the withdrawal of all Capital Links services and I seek an urgent meeting with you to discuss it further.

This is deeply concerning and will inevitably have a devastating impact on many of my constituents. For many of my constituents these bus links are a vital lifeline. This concern is not new, and you may recall I previously raised this matter with you in the summer when cuts to services were made in Gabalfa, in light of the company’s financial viability.

Many constituents have contacted me following the announcement, expressing significant concerns for the problems this would cause. I am particularly worried for service users with mobility difficulties who use the service to access family, friends and vital services.

The lack of adequate public transport in a fast-paced Capital City has long been an issue and this decision is set to make things much worse. This decision will exacerbate the pressures on our current infrastructure, which is already struggling with the increasing traffic and parking issues.

In addition, the loss of routes and cuts to public transport services are not conducive to Cardiff Council’s ambitions for sustainable travel across the city and I will be raising this matter directly with them in the hope that we can all help find a way forward to meet the needs of the communities Cardiff Bus serves.

I hope you will agree to an urgent meeting to discuss these issues and the impact on my constituents. I look forward to your response as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely/ Yn gywir,

Anna McMorrin MP/AS
Member of Parliament for Cardiff North
Aelod Seneddol dros Ogledd Caerdydd
